WHY THE ROCK COMMUNITY?

There are big dreams and plans for Britain’s Ocean City.  Plymouth is to experience major development - particularly to the north - with several new neighbourhoods being created.  Two of these neighbourhoods are in the Derriford area.

It so happens that the geology of Derriford is slate.  In other words, all these new houses are being built on rock.

Some 2,000 years ago, on the side of a mountain, Jesus said this to a crowd of people:

“Whoever hears these teachings of mine and obeys them is like a wise man who built his house on rock. It rained hard, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house. But it did not fall because it was built on rock.

“Whoever hears these teachings of mine and does not obey them is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. It rained hard, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house. And it fell with a loud crash.”

(Matthew 7:24-27 ERV)

Imagine being part of a community to the north of Plymouth who are putting Jesus’ teaching into practice:

Living with unshakable hope.
Responding with courageous faith.
Motivated by selfless love, that defies impossible odds.

In an age where it seems the only thing that’s certain is uncertainty, imagine what an impact such a community could make in the region: a community of people whose lives, as well as their houses, were built on the rock-sure foundations of the hope of Jesus Christ.

These are our big dreams and plans.  Because Jesus is our hope.  It’s a hope that really is like the difference between building on rock or sand.
